Pro Shifter Series Heads to Road America

Elkhart Lake, WI – The third round of the PG Racing Pro Shifter Series was held at the end of Road America Pro Shifter Podiumthe Friday practice day of the Road America Super Nationals.  This stop for the series always has
a large starting field as many of the top shifter kart racers had converged to Road America.
Due to scoring system problems, the field was forced to start based on when entries were received, putting Ryan and Chris Hegar on the front row.  A rolling start is used at Road America, unlike the rest of the events where the F-1 style start is utilized.  Ryan Hegar would get the jump at the start with Lance Lane glued to his bumper.  By the second lap, Lance Lane
was at the point with Owen Wharton and Derek Crockett tight in the draft behind him with
about an 11 kart draft in the lead pack.  Josh Lane would work his way to the front for several
laps continued to be followed by his father, Lance Lane, along with Crocket, Joe Sturm and Clayton Prater running in the top five.  Meanwhile, other former winners riding in the top ten pack of karts included Jim Russell Jr. and Jeremy Lightwine.  Owen Wharton, Pat Malacarne
and Ryan Hegar also battled in the lead pack for much of the race.  The father-son duo of
Lance and Josh Lane worked well together to lead much of the race, although the draft would
allow others  to run up front at times including Joe Sturm, Derek Crockett and Clayton Prater.
On the final lap, as the lead pack approached turn 14 for the finish, Lance Lane and Croackett
held the top two positions with Prater, Wharton and Josh Lane battling for third.  In the final
turn, Prater and Wharton ended up in the gravel trap while Josh Lane recovered to hold on
for third place.  A scoring error showed Josh Lane a lap down and to add to the confusion,
Josh had two different numbers on his kart making the hand scoring backup results also
confusing.  In the end it was determined that Josh would take third place, Crockett finished

second, and Lance Lane captured the top spot on the podium.  The top three got to celebrate with the traditional Pro Shifter champagne ceremony, although they elected to not spray the champagne.  The next round of the Pro Shifter Series will take place on June 30 at Grattan Raceway.   For more information about the PG Racing Pro Shifter Series, visit www.internationalracingassociation.com or call 866-689-RACE.
