Clayton Prater Takes Iowa Pro Shifter Series Round
Newton, IA – The sixth round of the PG Racing Pro Shifter Series race at the new Iowa
Speedway was won by veteran shifter kart driver Clayton Prater. Prater, who drives a WildKart chassis for PG Racing, just edged fellow WildKart driver Derek Crockett at the finish line by .021 seconds.
The previous round of the PG Racing Pro Shifter Series was rained out at Blackhawk Farms
Raceway and most the series regulars made the trip to the new Iowa Speedway 1.3 mile road course. Josh Lane grabbed the lead at the start of the race with the pack of Lance Lane, Clayton Prater, Derek Crockett, Owen Wharton and Joe Sturm close behind. On the second lap, Lance Lane had moved to the point ahead of Josh Lane and Prater. The Lanes would swap the lead for several laps until Crockett worked his way to the front for several laps. Joe Sturm was the first kart to lose the lead draft and began to drop back from the top five. Owen Wharton and Josh Lane would eventually drop out with mechanical problems, leaving Lance Lane without his drafting partner. The Team PG Racing members of Prater and Crockett were able to pull away from Lance Lane over the final few laps for a six second win. Crockett finished just .021 seconds behind race winner Clayton Prater. Prater also set fast time in the race turning a 48.025 second lap. Rounding out the top five were Joe Sturm and Ralph Wofford IV.
The top three of Prater, Crockett and Lane celebrated in the Iowa Speedway victory circle with the traditional Pro Shifter champagne ceremony. Only this time, they turned the champagne spray toward PG Racing owner Greg Yocum, giving him a thorough drenching. The final round of the Pro Shifter Series will take place on September 15th at Blackhawk Farms Raceway.
